Pubwatch schemes act as a powerful deterrent against crime and disorder and help to create a safer drinking environment.
The aim of any such scheme is to improve the ambience of the environment in and around premises in the Pubwatch area and enhance the safety, security, comfort and well being of customers so that their visits are pleasurable occasions which they will wish to repeat. If this aim is achieved then an improvement in the safety, security and well being of staff will almost certainly follow.
By establishing a Pubwatch scheme you can provide a co-ordinated and consistent approach to tackling incidents of crime and disorder related to licensed premises.
Such schemes provide an ideal opportunity for licensees and the police to work in partnership.
Their involvement in the scheme is to pass and receive information, offer advise on problems, provide guidance on legal issues and deal with specific criminal offences.
The effectiveness of the Pubwatch will depend very much on the communication methods that are selected for use by them.
The benefits of a Pubwatch radio system are;
- Radios give direct and immediate link from pubs to police. The police are then able to respond quickly and efficiently.
- The radios will also alert other pubs to be on the look out and to exclude trouble makers. This will ensure that those individuals who have been stopped served alcohol in one pub will not then just go to another pub.
- Anti social behaviour will reduce as trouble makers soon realize that everytime they cause a nuisance the police will respond quickly.
